Competitions

Background

The Skillbuild Northern Ireland Competition is hosted annually each spring.  The competition involves twelve crafts from the construction industry.  It is the largest multi-trade competition in the country for young students and apprentices who are aged 21 and under on 1 January of the year of the competition.

Approximately 100 apprentices from across Northern Ireland take part each year covering the twelve crafts involved. The competition is held over two days.

Skillbuild NI competition test pieces are designed to challenge the ability of apprentices to follow detailed instructions, produce accurate and neat work outputs, be economical with materials while working to strict timescales – all essential requirements for today’s construction industry.

Our aim is to promote and build a skills respect culture by celebrating skills excellence, inspiring young people and providing them with an opportunity to showcase their skills and talent.  Craft competitions are a wonderful way for young apprentices to become inspired and motivated.
